How these support the development and function of nerve cells is poorly understood so far. Thomas Hummel and his colleagues from the Department of Neurobiology have now shown that sphingolipids are crucial in the sorting of proteins in growing nerve cells. The results of their study recently appeared in the prestigious journal Nature Communications.
