The NASA STAR program is an annual virtual training initiative designed to provide senior scientists, principal investigators, and postdoctoral fellows with the knowledge and skills needed to conduct biological experiments in space. The curriculum covers essential aspects of space biology, technical and logistical considerations for spaceflight experiments, and the opportunities and challenges unique to conducting research in space. Participants will also have the opportunity to network with experienced researchers and space technology developers.
Manuela Schmidt expressed her excitement about participating in the STAR program, noting: "The STAR program provides an invaluable opportunity to learn from NASA experts and experienced space biology researchers. This training will not only enhance my ability to design experiments for space, but also open doors to collaborate with interdisciplinary teams and advance pain research and pain management in microgravity and beyond".
